Ashley Swearengin

Mayor, City of Fresno

Mayor Swearengin was born in Texas and raised in Arkansas.  She moved with her family to Fresno when she was in high school, and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration at Fresno State University, graduating with honors.


Swearengin has held such positions as the director of community and economic development at Fresno State, as well as the chief operating officer of the Regional Jobs Initiative, which she co-founded.  In 2005, Swearengin became lead executive for the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley, where she addressed critical resource needs in the community.  Swearengin was elected mayor of Fresno in 2008.


In the past, Swearengin was named Alumnus of the Year by Leadership Fresno, and one of Fresno’s Top Business and Professional Women of the Year by the Marjaree Mason Center.
